College Response to Lockdown

By Mr Jamie Madigan Principal

This morning the Victorian Deputy Premier James Merlino announced a state-wide lockdown for Victoria from 11:59pm tonight, for the next seven days. This may have a significant impact on families.

The College Leadership Team met this afternoon to develop contingency plans in response to the announcement.

The following decisions have been made:

• Friday 28 May, will be a school closure day as staff will be preparing for remote learning which will begin on Monday 31 May. Timetabled classes will not be running tomorrow, and students may use this time to catch up and complete any tasks

• From Monday 31 May to Thursday June 4, homeroom will be conducted on MS Teams and classes will be conducted remotely, which may include a combination of Microsoft Teams and SEQTA coursework (this information will be communicated by the subject teacher)

• Students can access the Remote Learning Guidelines & Microsoft Teams instructions through the Student Portal on SEQTA

• Parents can access the Remote Learning Guidelines & Microsoft Teams instructions in the attachments by clicking on the links attached

• Attached also is the links to Supporting Student Wellbeing (Parent Guide) document and Supporting Student Wellbeing (Student Guide) document

• It is anticipated that all students will return onsite next Friday June 5. However further information and updates will be provided next week

It is recommended that students use tomorrow, Friday 28 May to catch up on work and begin preparing themselves for a move to remote learning. At this stage we are unable to predict what may happen in the short or long term, but we know that things can change very quickly. Therefore staff, families and students must be ready for whatever decision is made.

Essential workers and onsite learners

If parents meet the criteria of an essential worker, then they must complete the on-site supervision form, in the link below, by 5:00pm Friday 28 May.

Application form for on-site learning

Please contact the College if you have any concerns for your child.

Thank you for your support as we navigate through another period of change.

Principal Report

By Mr Jamie Madigan Principal

This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, celebrated seven weeks after the resurrection of Jesus; the Holy Spirit was poured out upon those followers of Jesus who had gathered in Jerusalem. In Pentecost, God pours out the Spirit upon all who put their faith in Jesus Christ and become His disciples (see Romans 8:1-11).

Christians are meant to live in the presence and power of the Spirit of God. Scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit helps us to confess Jesus as Lord, empowers us to serve God with supernatural power, binds us together as the Body of Christ, helps us to pray and even intercedes for us with God the Father. The Spirit guides us helping us to live like Jesus.

Pentecost presents us with an opportunity to consider how we are living each day. Are we relying on the power of God’s Spirit? Are we an open channel for the Spirit’s gifts? Are we attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Pentecost offers a chance to confess our failure to live by the Spirit and to ask the Lord to fill us afresh with His power. We pray that the Holy Spirit empowers us to truly live and enact our College motto of ‘Live Fully Act Justly’.

Face Masks:

I hope that you and your families are keeping safe and well. Earlier this week, the Victorian Government announced that those in Greater Metropolitan Melbourne must wear a face covering when indoors from 6:00 pm Tuesday, 25 May.

Face coverings will be mandatory for people aged 12 and over when inside. Therefore, all staff and students are now required to wear masks whilst inside College buildings. However, as per the regulations teachers and education support staff are not required to wear face masks while teaching, but they can if they wish to do so.

Parents and carers will also be required to wear face coverings whenever they are onsite. At this stage, the College will be open as normal.

Many students have not brought a face mask with them to school, despite prior communication asking them to do so. We have handed out a very large number of disposable face masks to students who have required them. However, our own stocks of disposable face masks are very low and we will no longer be able provide students with face masks.

Therefore, I ask all parents to ensure that their child has a face mask with them at school at all times as per Government guidelines. Students without a face mask will not be able to attend classes.

I thank you in advance for your ongoing support and understanding. I assure you that I, along with all staff at CRC Caroline Springs are doing our utmost to support your child and we will continue to provide the best possible outcomes for all in 2021.

Mission & Faith

By Mr Paul Sammut Head of Mission & Faith

Prayer to The Most Holy Trinity

God, Trinity, hidden in my soul,
I praise and thank you for your gift of love.

You have breathed into my soul the desire to be united with You in love.
May this desire be realized in me through the hidden work of love.

I surrender myself completely to Your loving embrace,
transform all that would keep this desire from being fulfilled.

May my love for You be selfless as I continue to deepen in this three-fold unity of Father, Son and Spirit.

St Barbara of the Trinity

The Feast of The Most Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity is referred to as the ‘mystery of our faith.’ In our Catholic faith a ‘mystery’ is a divinely revealed truth that we cannot fully understand by our finite mind because it derives from God. The point is even though we cannot ‘fully’ understand the mystery of the Trinity, we can still come to know aspects of it as revealed by Christ and His Church. The catechism of the Catholic church states, “The Trinity is One. We do not confess three Gods, but one God in three persons: [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] … The divine persons do not share the one divinity among themselves, but each of them is God, whole and entire” (CCC, 253).

I won’t try and attempt to explain what is commonly known as the ‘preachers’ nightmare’ myself. Below is a reflection from Catholic theologian Scott Hahn.

Family of Love: Scott Hahn Reflects on the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity

Last Sunday, we celebrated the sending of the Spirit, which sealed God’s new covenant and made a new creation.

In this new creation, we live in the family of God, who has revealed Himself as a Trinity of love. We share in His divine nature through His Body and Blood (see 2 Peter 1:4). This is the meaning of the three feasts that cap the Easter season— Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, and Corpus Christi.

These feasts should be intimate reminders of how deeply God loves us, how He chose us, from before the foundation of the world, to be His children (see Ephesians 1:4–5).

Today’s readings illuminate how all God’s words and works were meant to prepare for the revelation of the Trinity and God’s blessing in Jesus Christ—the blessing we inherited in Baptism and renew in each Eucharist.

By God’s word the heavens and earth were filled with His kindness, we sing in today’s Psalm. Out of love, God called Abraham and chose his descendants to be His own people, Moses says in today’s First Reading (see Deuteronomy 4:20,37). Through the Israelites, He revealed to the nations that He alone is Lord and there is no other.

In Jesus, God’s word took flesh as a son of Abraham (see Matthew 1:1). And Jesus reveals in the Gospel today that the one God is Father, Son, and Spirit, and that He desires to make all people His own.

As He led Israel out of Egypt, God freed us from slavery, Paul says in today’s Epistle. As He adopted Israel (see Romans 9:4), He gives us the Spirit by which we can know Him as “Our Father.”

As God’s heirs, we receive the commissions of Moses and Jesus today. We are to fix our hearts on Him, and to observe all that He has commanded. The Eucharist is His pledge—that He will be with us until the end, that He will deliver us from death to live forever in the promised land of His kingdom.

Year 8 Reflection Day

“On Thursday 13 May, the Year 8’s had our faith reflection day. We had the honour of being visited by Fr Rob Galea who shared the story of his faith journey with us. Fr Rob talked about his struggles in his path and how his life has turned around forever through discovering the love of Jesus. His life story inspired us to become closer to God and it showed us how powerful God is in transforming our lives. Fr Rob has overcome his challenges, which helped us realise that we can comeback from our mistakes through the love of Jesus. Overall, it was a really great day and we learnt a lot from Fr Rob.”

By Anne Crockford Learning Diversity Leader

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability is an annual collection that counts the number of students with disability and the level of reasonable educational adjustment with which they are provided. The national data collection will count students who have been identified as receiving an adjustment to address a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (the DDA). College funding in support of learners is determined by this collection and submission of data. Further information, in both English and Arabic, are attached for parents.

Lit in the Lord "Pentecost" - Social Justice

By Ms Matilda Mattar Social Justice and Service-Learning Leader

In Term 1, the Social Justice team focused on the fruits of the CRCCS, the gifts and talent of our community were put on display for all to see. Our tree stood firm and bold, but it was now time for us to celebrate the risen Lord, encouraging our community to be ‘Lit in the Lord’, just as the disciple were.

Pentecost always occurs 50 days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, and 10 days after His ascension into heaven. As Easter is a feast without a fixed date, Pentecost depends on the timing of Easter. On this day, we welcomed the CRCCS community at the gate, inviting them to mark their flame with their names, as we celebrate this wonderful occasion of Pentecost, allowing the Holy Spirit to light the lives of our community members.

At times Pentecost may be slightly overlooked. However, it plays a fundamental role in our Christian lives. Pentecost teaches us that we need the Holy Spirit to cleanse our hearts and allow us to start afresh, we need the direction it provides, and we need each other.

Open your hearts and allow the Lord to enlighten your lives, so that you are “LIT in the LORD”

Year 9 Dance

By Sienna-Skye Prokopec and Chantelle Randan 9 KO and 9KU

Students from Year 9 Dance have been working hard this semester on different styles. Below is an overview of what we have been up to in class.

Jazz:

“At the start of Term 1 we started learning a dance called ‘think’ by The Blue Brothers and Aretha Franklin. This dance allowed us to show our dance talent through Jazz. This dance was choreographed by our amazing dance teacher Ms Franzone. We continued working on this dance throughout Term 1 and in the last week of term we performed it to our families. The effort we put into this dance allowed us to show that we could all work together through the movements of partner and group work. Throughout the dance, we learnt and got taught different variations and combinations of Jazz. We learnt new skills that allowed us to go out of our comfort zones and show the potential we have. Overall, the experience was amazing, and I really enjoyed it. I loved putting together all the choreography to make it such an amazing dance as a final result.”

- Sienna-Skye 9KO

    Hip Hop:

“At the beginning of Term 2, we began our Hip Hop routine as a part of the Year 9 Dance class. We were grateful enough to have a talented Hip Hop teacher named Ms Angelica Limun come in and teach us a dance remix. Each Thursday for 3 weeks, we were taught a variation of dance moves which were then combined to create the final product. The remix consisted of 3 songs which were ‘Rump Shaker’ by Wreckx-N-Effect, ‘Yeah!’ by Usher Feat. Lil’ Jon & Ludacris and ‘Lose Control’ by Missy Elliot Feat. Ciara & Fat Man Scoop. While we were learning the dance, we expanded and developed our skills, put our energy into this routine and were able to have fun by hyping each other up. Even though this dance may have been something different for some of us, we all picked up the flow of the dance easily. We all helped each other to remember the dance and produced a fun and exciting dance. I felt elated once the dance was finished and was proud of all the girls for putting in the effort to achieve the results. As a Hip Hop dancer myself, I believe that our class worked extremely well to learn the dance together, as usually it takes so much longer to memorise all that choreography! I certainly enjoyed learning this choreography and putting the dances together to form one song. I liked how we were able to have Angelica teach us her style of Hip Hop and inspire our style of dance. I was also impressed how Angelica incorporated different aspects of Hip Hop into her incredible choreography. Overall, it was a great experience that I took a lot away from.”
