Term 2 SACCSS Sport Summary

Term 2 was a big term for interschool sport at CRC Caroline Springs with a variety of sports and students from across all four Year levels competing.

VSAC Swimming

Early in the term we had 2 students selected to represent SACCSS at the All Schools Swimming Championships, competing against other sporting associations across Victoria. Chloe Burke 8KU and Emma Nguyen 9MK participated in multiple events across the night with Emma swimming a couple of relays in the age group above to ensure all events were filled. Well done to both girls on their selection and representing both SACCSS and CRCCS.

SACCSS Cross Country

In May we had a team of around 40 students compete in the SACCSS Cross Country event at Brimbank Park. The students had been selected based on results from our school event at the end of term 2. We were hopeful of some strong results as this was one of the biggest teams we had sent in a number of years and included some very good runners.

All students performed well throughout the day, pushing right to the end of the race to ensure every point was gained for our team. We managed to finish 3rd in both the boys intermediate and the intermediate aggregate (boys and girls) categories. Well done again to all runners in the school event and the SACCSS day in term 2.

Intermediate Futsal

As reported earlier this term, we had 2 teams defending their titles this term with the girls, reigning division 1 champions and the boys the inaugural division 2 champions in 2021.

Both teams played well across the day with the girls just missing the final on goal difference and the boys qualifying for the final but sadly being out classed by a smooth St Monica’s team. We will be back in 2023 striving to regain the trophies and continue our good run in futsal competition.

Junior Girls AFL

At the end of May we had a team of girls head out for the Junior Girls AFL tournament at Wyndham Vale Football Club. Oddly enough, the team this year were all Year 7 students but they were all keen to compete hard and show their football skills.

The girls played exceptionally well in tough, cold and windy conditions coming away with 2 wins, a draw and 1 loss from their 4 pool matches. Unfortunately, we missed the opportunity to play off in a final with the top 2 teams just ahead of us on the ladder, but our girls should be proud of their effort across the day. I am sure with these girls all being the top age year 8 for junior football in 2023, they will be keen to show the other schools what they can do.

Year 8 Boys AFL

The last sport event in term 2 was just last week when the inaugural Year 8 Boys AFL tournament was held. The weather was just as cold and blustery as previously experienced by the girls but our boys were determined to not let this stop them from achieving their best.

The boys won their 2 pool matches to qualify for a semi final against the second ranked team from the other pool. Even a downpour during this match couldn’t stop our boys from the run and drive to win the semi-final and set up a grand final against the other undefeated side at Salesian College. Salesian proved in the final that they were a well-oiled machine running out comfortable winners over our team and taking out the trophy.

Lucas Caruana 8BA was named best on ground in the grand final and he and all the boys should be proud of their efforts in their preparation and in competition across the day.

House Carnivals

Lastly, I would like to publicly congratulate the winners of age group champions at our house carnivals earlier this year. They were announced and awarded in the recent end of term assembly but is important to recognise the performances of these students in our community.
