At the beginning of 2022, staff were encouraged to pick a ‘lucky dip Saint.’ My Saint was St. Oscar Romero. Romero so simply and beautifully states:
“We cannot do everything and there is a sense of freedom in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest”.
When we stop and think of this statement, we realise that this is a solid reflection of our mission of the social Justice team at our college. We do our best, and allow God’s grace to guide, protect and lead us in the direction He sees best fit.
This year’s Caritas theme is “for all future generations”, and the most amazing thing is that our college community have kept last year’s motto, a quote by St Oscar Romero, “aspire not to have more but to be more” at the forefront of our minds. I know this because I have been able to witness, the big hearts in action as students bring our college motto “Live Fully Act Justly” to life.
Lots of moments and memories were created during Semester 1. We have been able to celebrate so much as a community, for example St Pat’s day, the great feast of Easter, pancake sales, bake stalls, barbeques, card making for the special female in our lives, all of this, while fundraising for Caritas and for our brothers and sisters in Uganda. To top it off, we ended the term celebrating the diversity and richness of our multicultural community. The Social Justice Team greeted students at the front gate, asking them to write their names, or hello in their native language. It has been an eventful semester, a huge success and this is thanks to you.
Thank you to everyone who has gone out of their way to make this possible. I speak on behalf of the team, when I say that you are the main drive for us. You keep our passion alive, and your response only makes us more inclined to do more for this wonderful community.
Your giving hearts and humble smiles don’t go without notice and your actions speak louder than words, we are a special community, and every individual plays a special part. So once again THANK YOU!
Semester 2 is going to be jam packed, and we can’t wait to continue to create a more just community.
God bless and keep safe over the holidays.
