On Wednesday we recognized Remembrance Day, which is celebrated on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. An on-line whole school ceremony was held and was hosted by our Year 7 student leaders, who are to be commended on their efforts. A minutes silence was also observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. We remember in faith all who have served, and continue serving in our armed forces, especially those who have died and those wounded in battle.
We also remember at this time to pray for healing and peace; that one day, all peoples will lay down their arms and embrace one another as brothers and sisters in one human family. Lord our God, on this day of remembrance, we entrust all our prayers and needs to your infinite mercy. Help us to become ever more mindful of the bonds that unite us as a human family despite our differences. Heal our inner wounds and outward divisions, that one day our world might live in your true and lasting peace.
NAIDOC Week
This week’s theme Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years, and we celebrate this them in NAIDOC Week. As a College that has a strong indigenous focus, we take this opportunity to acknowledge our ongoing support in working towards Reconciliation with the original inhabitants of this great land – Australia.
Perth artist Tyrown Waigana designed the artwork for the 2020 National NAIDOC poster. It is interesting to read what inspired his design:
“The Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to it, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - always was and always will be Aboriginal land.”
This week, numerous activities have been organised at the College to celebrate NAIDOC week.
Year 10 Graduation Ceremony
We received some very good news this week! With the new easing of restrictions, we are now able to conduct an onsite Year 10 Graduation Ceremony and Assembly with our Year 10 students. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing restrictions, parents and carers will not be able to attend the event. We will however be livestreaming the Graduation Ceremony and parents can watch the event from their homes. The Graduation ceremony will be held on the evening of Thursday 26 November from 6:00pm. Given that we only recently received CEM endorsement to hold the event, more detailed information regarding the Graduation will be provided to parents early next week.
