By Ms Katie Murray-Fawcett Deputy Principal of Wellbeing

This time last year the Victorian Government announced new Child Safety Standards that will be introduced by 1 July 2022. The implementation of these new standards will further strengthen child safe environments within our College and protect children from abuse. The revised standards support more consistency within schools and have been developed following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Child Safety Standards are supported by the Ministerial Order No. 1359 which defines the actions our College must take to meet the requirements associated with the new Child Safety Standards. The school has implemented a Child Safety Team that has worked on documenting how the College is currently meeting the new standards and what we will do further in moving forward.

The 11 standards below will replace the current existing 7 standards that are now in place.

  • Culturally safe environments
  • Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in leadership, governance and culture
  • Child and student empowerment
  • Family engagement
  • Diversity and equity
  • Suitable staff and volunteers
  • Complaints processes
  • Child safety knowledge, skills and awareness
  • Child safety in physical and online environments
  • Review of child safety practices
  • Implementation of child safety practices
